Rose Brooks Center is proud to have been recognized both nationally and locally for the quality of our work and the accomplishments of our executives. Here is an abridged list of our most distinguished achievements.

Awards and Recognition

• Rose Brooks Center is recognized as a 4-star charity by Charity Navigator for the 5th year. This is Charity Navigator’s highest possible rating and indicates that we adhere to sector best practices and execute our mission in a financially efficient way. Only 5% of the charities evaluated have received at least five consecutive 4-star ratings.

• Rose Brooks Center has been accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). COA accredits organizations who meet standards of quality set forth by the accrediting body that involves an in-depth review of an organization against currently accepted best practice standards.

• In 2016, we were designated by the State Department as the Domestic Violence Shelter site to visit for international visitors.

• Susan Miller, CEO, and Lisa Fleming, COO, were chosen as keynote speakers for the 15th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act by the Office on Violence Against Women.

• Rose Brooks Center’s Transitional Housing Program received the Best Practices Award and Best Among Peers Award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

• Rose Brooks Center was selected by the National Network to End Domestic Violence and the Allstate Foundation to be a national test site for the Economic Empowerment Moving Ahead through Financial Management curriculum evaluated by Rutgers University.

• Rose Brooks Center was selected to present on five topics at the World Conference of Women’s Shelters in Washington DC. The most of any shelter.

• Rose Brooks Center was selected as a model site by the Vera Institute for Accessibility and Responsiveness.

• Rose Brooks Center, as a leading domestic violence program, received a personal invitation from Vice President Joe Biden to be a part of an exclusive group invited to the 20th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act.

• Rose Brooks Center was honored by Futures Without Violence, at the National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence in March of 2012 for Outstanding Leadership in Violence Prevention.

• Certified a Healthy KC Organization, Rose Brooks Center has been awarded the highest platinum certified designation by The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The Healthy KC award was created to recognize area organizations for innovation and excellence in promoting a culture of health in the workplace.

• CEO Susan Miller was selected as Citizen of the Year for the Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s Women’s Justice Awards Class of 2015.

• Rose Brooks Center continues to lead the city’s first safety assessment – collaborating at the state and local level to explore Kansas City’s criminal justice system, addressing risk to victims and accountability of batterers.

• Rose Brooks Center received the 2013 Community Service Award from the Saint Luke’s Health System Forensic Care Program.

• Rose Brooks Center was awarded the 2010 Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award by Support KC.

• Rose Brooks Center was named “Best of the Best” Philanthropic Organization by KC Magazine.
