Project SAFE is a school-based violence prevention program within Jackson County schools, working to end the cycle of domestic violence by providing therapy and support to children and teens dealing with violence at home or in their own relationships. If you want to know if Project SAFE is in your or your child’s school, check with your school counselor.
• Project SAFE’s school-based peer support groups, individual therapy, and educational presentations provide students the tools needed to make positive life choices and develop healthy relationships.
• Pre-school through high school students receive guidance on safety planning, healthy relationships, anger control, violence and substance abuse prevention, and building a positive sense of self.
• School personnel are offered training and consultation on domestic violence.
Youth Safety Planning
Everyone deserves a relationship that is healthy, safe and supportive. If you are in a relationship that is hurting you, it is important for you to know that the abuse is not your fault. It is also important for you to start thinking of ways to keep yourself safe and who you could talk to, whether you decide to end the relationship or not. While you can’t control your partner’s abusive behavior, you can take action to keep yourself as safe as possible.

Do you know how to help a friend? If you’re a parent, do you know what to watch out for in your child’s relationship? Do you know the signs of an unhealthy relationship? Watching a friend or child go through an abusive relationship can be very scary and you may feel like you’re not sure how to help them. Here are some suggestions and tips on how to help your friend/child, warning signs, and some facts about teen dating abuse.

Rose Brooks Center Bridge Program®
When it’s 2:00 in the morning at the Emergency room, Rose Brooks is Here.
Serving patients experiencing domestic violence in the safety of local hospitals and clinics.
• Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Advocates provide compassionate and confidential referrals, including shelter resources, orders of protection, legal services, therapy, and safety planning.
• Continuous training for medical staff is provided annually.
Court Advocacy
When you’re scared to face the system or your abuser alone, Rose Brooks is here.
Advocating for and guiding survivors through complex court systems.
• Caring advocates answer questions and offer support throughout the legal process. Services offered include connection to shelter, therapy, and help planning for safety.
• Advocacy services are offered for orders of protection and criminal cases with the Kansas City Municipal Court, state court, and Jackson County court.
Police Advocacy
When police officers respond to a domestic violence call, Rose Brooks is Here.
This program provides advocacy services for victims of domestic violence seen by the Domestic Violence Section of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. This position is co-located within the Kansas City Missouri Police Department Domestic Violence Section in order to work cooperatively and collaboratively in establishing, implementing and evaluating an improved system for holding batterers accountable and improving victim safety.
Additionally, this program includes our Lethality Assessment Program initiative with the KCPD. LAP helps us provide a crucial point of access for domestic violence victims who need help the most—those with a high risk of being murdered by their abusers. If an officer determines a victim is at a high risk, he or she calls Rose Brooks Center’s 24-hour hotline for support and follow-up.
